summary, download hacked intel drivers that allow eeprom writing and change country code to ZZE
the ONLY thing you need to do eeprom wise (follow everything else) (be it OEM 2200bg, intel 2200bg, or any other 2200bg)
this unlocks channels 12 and 13 for US versions of the intel 2200bg card.

#ethtool -E ethX magic 0x2200 offset 0x4c value 0x5athen reboot into windows, and if channels 12 and 13 dont work, uninstall driver, reboot, reinstall driver. done.
#ethtool -E ethX magic 0x2200 offset 0x4d value 0x5a
#ethtool -E ethX magic 0x2200 offset 0x4e value 0x52
do NOTHING else with the -E for fear of paperweighting the card

Absolutely awesome. One problem for me was obtaining knoppix old enough to run on my old laptop. But accidentaly that knoppix mentioned in the hack is available as a bonus dvd to linux magazine 60 (just google it). I have tried it under linux mint live CD but it didn't work but with knoppix live cd it work like a charm. Only one minor obstacle is that knoppix 4.0.2 can't copy-paste to the terminal.
